The future of the camera: the smartcam WVIL.
We’ve talked previously about the future of the TV with the the Goab’s TV concept. Today, we will present you what could become the future of the digital photography.
Artefact is a design company based in Seattle that came up with - let’s admit it - a revolutionary concept. Instead of following the trend and developing an all-in-one smartphone device, Artefact tends to include some mobile features into a camera.
This concept, called WVIL (for Wireless Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) or Futura, is finally bringing evolutions in the camera industry. The company claims indeed that not much progresses have been made during the past 10 years.
Concretely, this camera would offer an internet connection and similar apps which can already be found on smartphones. The interdependent lens can be removed and the screen is off course tactile. The users could retouch the pictures thanks to the softwares preinstalled and choose to share them directly on social networks. This could perfectly suit to apps such as Color or Instagram.
The design suits quite good to its purpose: a mix between a smartphone (HTC Hero) and a bridge camera (sony nex 5K) - see the picture below. It may be a way for cameras’ manufacturers to compete against the growing performances of smarphones such as Iphone 4 (5 megapixel). Let’s not forget that the iPhone is the 2nd most used camera on FlickR between Nikon and Canon (see the article on NYTimes)…
